Two competitors exchanging techniques in a kumite final

Top 5 Fights of the World Cup

Five bouts, five lessons. Our coaching team watched every round of the World Cup and picked the fights every student should study — and what to steal for your own kumite.

FIGHT 01 — THE FINAL

A last-second gyaku-zuki decides it

Two points down with eleven seconds left, the underdog stopped chasing and started drawing — two feints to pull the lead leg, then a straight reverse punch down the middle. Lesson: finals are won by patience, not panic.

FIGHT 02 — QUARTERFINAL

The clinch masterclass

Nearly a minute of chest-to-chest gripping ended with a perfectly timed ashi-barai foot sweep. Watch how the winner never pulled — she pushed, circled, then swept the weighted leg.

FIGHT 03 — TEAM EVENT

Comeback from 0–4

The loudest arena moment of the tournament. Down four points, the anchor fighter scored three unanswered techniques by doing one thing: attacking first every single exchange.

"Attack first, attack clean, then get out. That is the whole sport in one sentence — and it won fight of the tournament."

FIGHT 04 — BRONZE MEDAL MATCH

Defense wins bronze

Not a single point conceded in three minutes. Textbook distance control, a guard that never dropped, and counter-punches thrown only when the opening was real.

FIGHT 05 — ROUND OF 16

The debutant's upset

An eighteen-year-old first-timer dismantled a former champion with nothing but basics: oi-zuki, mae-geri, repeat. Proof that clean fundamentals beat fancy technique under pressure.
